Your Vote is Your Voice - We Need Resident-Friendly Commissioners
Whether it’s building heights and densities, noise, trees, or traffic, why do the policies our city commissioners have been adopting for the last 18 months seem designed to destroy the charm, character, and natural beauty that made each of us choose this as our home?
Our area is growing and will continue to grow. Thoughtful growth is good. But this growth we’re experiencing is unbridled.
We've seen residents from all over the city with a host of quality-of-life issues which impact the livability of Sarasota ask the city to take their concerns into account when making policy. Almost every time, rather than expressing empathy for or interest in the citizens' issues, the livability issues stemming from unconstrained growth and conflicting land uses are deflected, dismissed, ignored, or ridiculed.
We—their constituents—have been called “an administrative burden” and “those little people” by one commissioner (initials HB).
If you want to prevent further displacement of all that makes Sarasota so appealing, please pay close attention to the candidates for our local offices, and demand that candidates articulate a resident-friendly philosophy if they want to win your support. Your vote is your voice, and our city's future is at stake.
